Jewish Learning for Parents of Young Children
Temple Shalom in Medford is thrilled to be the only synagogue North of Boston to be offering families the opportunity to take part in Ikkarim, Jewish adult learning for parents of young children.
Parenting is awe-inspiring. Beyond the practical issues of how to get your baby or toddler to go to sleep, parenting invokes in all of us deeper questions about meaning, core values, and the world around us.
Designed just for parents of young children (newborn to age 8) is Ikkarim, a 19-week inspirational journey through Jewish sources of wisdom. Participants--adults of all faith traditions and backgrounds--discover how ikkarim (Hebrew for principles or core values) apply to practical parenting. They also learn how Judaism's sage perceptions about the human condition can inform their quest for meaning, and enrich their relationships with family and friends.
Offered by Hebrew College and the CJP Commission on Jewish Learning & Engagement, Ikkarim is taught by outstanding instructors who both understand the interests and concerns of young parents, and are adept at facilitating meaningful discussions. These often don't end when the ninety-minute class is up. In the words of one participant, "I learn, I think, I go home and discuss with my husband. Ikkarim gives me a new lens through which to view and understand Jewish values and learning."
Classes begin Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 9-10:30am runs for 19 sessions. Free on-site babysitting is included.
Tuition: $250 per person. More than 50 percent of the tuition for this 19-week program is subsidized by the Combined Jewish Philanthropies.
